Demystifying
Writers’ Demons©
Odd Pluralizations:
mouses & louses
Words derived from Old English usually make
their plurals irregularly as in:
child - children
ox - oxen
foot - feet
mouse - mice (the rodent kind)
louse - lice (the insect kind)

Modern usage, however, presents
two exceptions:
•
When the mouse
you’re talking about is either an overly timid person or a computer
device
you point and click with, two or more of them are mouses.
• When the louse
you’re talking about is a two-legged, dishonorable, villainous
scoundrel,
and he has one or more buddies like him, they are louses.
Do demons bedevil your writing? Similar, confusing words? Grammar, punctuation, or capitalization rules? “The Demystifier” will clear up the mystery (primary reference unless otherwise noted: Garner, Bryan A. Dictionary of Modern American Usage. N.Y.: Oxford University Press). Address questions and comments to freelance editor, Joan Upton Hall, PO Box 179, Hutto, TX 78634, or email: jmuHall@aol.com. More problems like the one above are demystified in the booklet, 50 Writers’ Tips. Find a few of them at “books, etc.” on website: www.JoanUptonHall.com.

Last Book I Read
I'm In No Mood
For Love by Rachel Gibson (New York Times Bestselling Author)
I absolutely loved this book. It's definitely a page turner. I read 90 pages in 2 hours and I didn't want to skip to the end. It drew me in at Chapter 1. I'm In No Mood For Love is somewhat funny, and the romance will definitely get a woman tingling.

I've
added a brand new Extras Page to the Home Page. I think it's there to stay. It's
a site index to help people get around a little better, since there's so much to
read and so many places to go. Click on the pic to view the Extras Page.
